So I got to meet Koji at PAX West! He signed my Lore book and I also got a chance to ask him a lore question about White Mages because honestly I’m tired of how restrictive the lore feels regarding the Job.
Me:
“I know White Mage lore is super restrictive about who is and isn’t allowed to use White Magic. That said, is there any way a non-Padjal who isn’t the Warrior of Light can become one?”
Koji-Fox:
“The answer to that is complicated – because from the perspective of the Padjal, the official answer to that is ‘No, absolutely not.’
That being said, discarded Soul Crystals are definitely something one would find if say, they explored the ruins of the Lost City of Amdapor or other Amdapori ruins. And with enough practice and research, someone could conceivably learn White Magic. The Padjal keep the knowledge but that doesn’t mean they hold every scrap of information on the art. The Sharlayans certainly would have some tucked away, and there’s certainly some scattered around in those previously mentioned Amdapori ruins.
So yeah, are there are non-Padjal, non-Warrior of Light White Mages lurking around Eorzea in the shadows? Absolutely. Some use their knowledge for evil, and some want to use the art of healing for good. However, they are not granted their power via the Padjal.”
So according to Koji – it is possible but difficult for a non-Padjal Conjurer to study and learn White Magic, however it would not be officially sanctioned by the Padjali. Meaning much like Black Mages, these White Mages would have to hide themselves because their art would be taboo.
Because Chaos Thrust is such a fun ability to preform, I decided to create a sort of variation which takes the spin from Storms Eye (another fantastic looking ability) and adds it into the end of the sweep from Chaos Thrust. There’s also an extra spin above the head before the final thrust.
So here’s that, with the two abilities below for comparison.
I’ll grab myself a nicer looking spear at some stage – the UK has a terrible selection to pick from – but this one is heavy as hell, so hopefully that comes across and makes the routine look a little more realistic~
