Lions of the Coliseum

Early in the Sixth Astral Era, lions were brought over from the Near East and trained to serve as battle mounts for the Sultansworn of Ul’dah. Deemed unbreakable, those not sold to the Coliseum for venationes were released into the deserts of Thanalan where they eventually reverted back to a feral state.

In my mind, Tiergan’s lion is actually a Coliseum lion that survived being used for a few venationes and then escaped in a flurry of bloody violence.  Tiergan came upon it while it was gravely injured in the deserts of Thanalan and nursed it back to help despite its many initial attempts to kill him for getting too close. 

Put up a ‘scars’ and ‘no-scars’ version, because Tiergan DEFINITELY has scars, but man – the no scars version looks nice. :V
