When you see people in game that you only know (or know of) through Tumblr and don’t have the guts to introduce yourself.

I get all WHAT DO even with people on my friends list so uh… yep.

ME. I’ve been trying to /dote at people though.

I am also guilty of the drive-by hug technique.

You could just say hi, and not be weird about it… I dunno, I don’t get it. We’re all just sacks of flesh on the other end of the screen anyhow. Not like anyone, in the game especially, is all that special. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in wanting to be treated like any other regular person.

For some folks, it is less “omg, this person is so special and unique – I can’t possibly say hello” and more “I am a shy, awkward duck to everyone in general.”

Personally speaking, my brain is astoundingly unhelpful sometimes after the initial “hello” and goes completely blank. I hate greeting someone and following up with awkward silence. I already tend to drive-by hug friends as a dorky greeting, but for people I don’t know super well its more of a:

“HEY.

UR COOL. I LIEK U.

HAVE DIS HUG.

I HOPE U HAVE A GOOD DAY.”

Sometimes I work up the steely courage to actually use words and chat, but when that doesn’t happen – its hug time. I assume this is basically what is going on when I get sudden hugs and dotes from folks in game.

( Unless it is something like /slap, /angry, or /disappointed. Then I will just spend an entire afternoon wondering what I did wrong, you dastardly fiend.
