Precious few people will actually give a damn about your lore-policing. At the end of the day, nobody is going to come away feeling personally enriched by your absolutely magnificent (I’m sure your mom was very proud of you) takedown of someone else’s character/narrative/take on the lore.Â
Nobody but you cares, and think about it, why do you care about it? Don’t like the overweight, one-eyed expat Garlean Elezen/Miqo’te’s backstory? It doesn’t affect you. It’s not going to make your experience worse knowing that this person is RPing this particular narrative. If, say, it does affect you because y’all are RPing a plot together….politely step away. You can interact with whomever you want in this game, it’s your experience to mold. The same goes for them, however, and you have no say in that. They can RP however they please, and it isn’t your place to interject unless it’s genuinely affecting you. The gentlest of reminders that you are not Michael Christopher Koji Fox or Yoshi P or on the XIV Dev Team, you didn’t shape the narrative of the game and you have absolutely no personal claim on the lore, or how people express it. None. At all. Sorry, chum.
What the topic of creativity within the confines of the lore in mind, here are some rad things that do exist or have been mentioned in-game (with handy links!):Â
Included are links to leves that 2.0 players no longer have access to (rip Zermaat Five) and several of the subjects in question are dubiously canonical. Should that stop you? Hell no. Get out there and RP to your wee heart’s content.
It isn’t about what you RP, quite honestly, it’s your portrayal and your treatment of others that come first. If you think that jumping someone’s case because of what they RP is a-ok, check yourself. If you think sending anon hate over RP is a-ok, check yourself. If you’re clutching your pearls over being told that maybe you need to dial you policing back a bit because you are super certain that you’re right, definitely check yourself.
Honestly? I’m making this post because I’ve had to up to heeeeere with people acting like shitty little children to each other regarding Roleplay and intellectual concepts. Learn to own up to your mistakes and your mistreatment of others, you’re in a public space interacting with other people that have as much right to be here as you do. This has been a rant PSA. o/
